Weekly Update Nov.13th, 2021

Last Sunday was a busy and wonderful day. It was All Saints Day and we moved to our new 9am worship time.

This also meant that we would be followed by St. Paul’s at 10:30 so we were particularly aware of time. It seems to have all come together for a wonderful experience. It was capped off with Bill Toalson on the trumpet playing “When the Saints go Marching In” as we went marching out.

Tomorrow we take a look at choices. One of the great passages in the OT is found in tomorrows reading, Deuteronomy 30:19 “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live.” Against you??? Yes against. We will talk about that tomorrow…… But the main point is choose life!

Choose life. It sounds so easy doesn’t it? Choosing life as understood in our faith journey is found in giving. Jesus said, “it is in giving that you receive”. And churches are here to make the world and our communities a better place. How will we invest in our community some of what we have been blessed with? As we approach Thanksgiving and the season of giving that will be our focus tomorrow.

Deuteronomy 30:15-20 and Luke 9:10-17

I hope you can be a part of the live experience tomorrow…. If in person (masking up) – we gather at 9:00 in the sanctuary. If remote as always our zoom connection is

Yes the UMW will be having our sale this year. However, it will be handled a little different. We have decided to pre-pack assorted cookies in clear take-home boxes. We felt this would be a safer way to handle the cookies since we are still in the pandemic. We would love to have your donations of cookies as always. Please bring them to the kitchen on Saturday, Dec. 4th between 9:30 am and Noon. We will be selling the boxes after Church services on Sunday, Dec. 5th. (We will have some nut-free boxes – if you would like one, please e mail me ahead of time.). We thank you for your support of this project. A big thanks to our women bringing Karla Chandler who portrayed Corrie ten Boom.

It was so well done, Karla’s retelling of a devout Christian woman whose family hid and protected Jews in their home as part of a Nazi resistance. Betrayed, she and her sister Betsy survived Ravensbruck concentration camp. After the war Corrie toured the world telling her story of God’s love and faithfulness in the midst of great hardship and persecution. A big thanks to all who helped and those who attended.

Decorations for Advent and Christmas.

Nancy Johnson is looking for some help with putting out the Christmas decorations. She will be having some hand surgery upcoming and will appreciate any and all help.

The decorations need to be changed any time after Sunday the 21st of November (noon) and before Sunday the 28th (the First Sunday of Advent). We are going to work in conjunction with St. Paul’s, so it shouldn’t be too hard and not take up too much time to get it all done. Please let me know if/when you are able to help and we can get it scheduled.

In partnership with St. Paul’s and our two scout groups – Pack and Troop 131, we will be adopting five needy families for Christmas, in place of supporting Operation Christmas Child.

Thanks to everyone who grabbed items off our Christmas
Below is a picture of those items still available.

Please contact Bonnie Rudolph if you would like to provide any of these items at bonrudolph1@ymail.com or 815-529-3209. Cash donations would also be greatly appreciated.

We appreciate very much if you pick one of these off our digital tree. If you do please either remove it from the tree in the coffee area tomorrow or respond to this email so it can be removed so we do not duplicate gifts.

Thank you very much for your generosity.

Christmas Eve – 4:30pm

Have a great rest of the day.
Hope to see you Sunday at 9:00
